Forest Hills
Forest Hills is a Downtown Columbia, SC neighborhood that is know for its curvy roads, unique and beautiful homes and large Oak Trees. One nickname for Forest Hill is Pill Hill, a tribute to its many hills and the doctors who have lived there. Forest Hills was developed in 1925 by Joseph Walker. The neighborhood has many triangular shaped natural park areas that act as buffers for the homes.
Forest Hills has a very rich history dating back to 1859 when Wade Hampton III built his home, Diamond Hill, on what is today Westminster Drive. The home was destroyed when General Sherman and his Federal troops burned Columbia on February 17, 1865. There is a monument to commemorate Wade Hampton III's home and accomplishments in Forest Hills near where Diamond Hill once stood.
Forest Hills has an optional neighborhood association with minimal annual dues. The neighborhood association has a yearly Easter Egg Hunt and promotes the Lights of Forest Hills, a tradition that encourages every home to light a Christmas Tree at the edge of their lawn. Forest Hills is stunning to view at night during the Holiday season! Many residents of Forest Hills are 2nd and 3rd generation owners.
